WAYNESBORO-Lewis William Yancey, 74, of 55 Mountain View Drive, died Monday (Nov. 26, 2001) while playing golf at Lynchburg.
He was born May 5, 1927 at Waynesboro, a son of Kenneth A. Yancey and Lucy Carter Yancey.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a retired supervisor from the Benger Laboratory at DuPont. He was an avid golfer and a member of Staunton Church of Christ, where he served as an elder.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Imogene Dawson Yancey, who died in 1997; five brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, L. W. Yancey II and his wife, Terri, of Waynesboro; and Michael K. Yancey and his wife Dianna of Richmond; a brother, Thurston H. Yancey of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren, Rachel Wyrick, Scott Yancey, Laura Wyrick, Katie Campbell and her husband Tim; and Kristen, Jennifer, Robert and Sarah Yancey; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Noah Wyrick and Luca Campbell; and a special friend, Ilene Knicely.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Reynolds Funeral Home, with Minister Greg Czerniak and the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Augusta Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jay Mize, Larry Fitzgerald, Dean Byron, Carroll Campbell, L. G. Ferrier,Bud Sharp, Clarence Coeyman and David Quick.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Trumbo, Charlie Harper, the Rev. Michael Curry, Aubrey Humphries, the Rev. Don McClure, Bill Swecker, Buck Earhart and the adult Bible school class of Staunton Church of Christ.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
