Olive Branch, MS - ALVIN FORREST YANCEY, JR., 85, formerly of Memphis, TN, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto, after a long struggle with lung problems. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jacqueline Ann Yancey; his daughter-in-law, Deborah Grinder Yancey of Olive Branch, MS and his very special granddaughter, Amanda Ruth Yancey Pounds (Clay) of Oxford, MS; sister, Anita Yancey Crozat (Thomas) of Ocean Springs, MS. He was preceded in death by his son, William Alan Yancey, parents, Cleo Cooper Yancey and Alvin F. Yancey, Sr. He was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Memphis, TN. He was born and reared in Memphis, TN and graduated from Memphis Technical High School. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific, of which he was a plank owner, was Assistant Manager for Swift Ice Cream Company. He retired from Memphis Furniture Company. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans,!
as well as The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. He loved to play golf and belonged to Irene Golf and Country Club until poor health forced him to quit playing. Always enjoyed weekly dinners with some very special friends. Visitation will be on Monday, May 28 from 5-7 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue, Memphis. Services will be at St. James Anglican Church on Tuesday, May 29 at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to join the family for a light reception at Memorial Park Funerl Home immediately following the interment in Memorial Park Cemetery.
