OBITUARY - Milan S Yancy

Milan Savarous Yancy, Ph.D., a native of Baton Rouge, departed this life Thursday, Sept. 2, 2011. He was the son of the late Floyd Yancy and Vivian Yancy. Milan received a bachelor of science degree from Southern University. At the University of Texas at Dallas, he received his master's degree and doctorate in environmental science. He previously served as manager for BCM Engineers Inc. Environmental compliance department. At the time of his death, he was the director of environmental science at Burk-Kleinpeter Inc. Milan served as lector and Eucharistic minister at St. Mary Catholic Church. He was an active member of St. Mary's School PTO. He also coached the girls soccer team and girls basketball team at St. Mary's. He served on the school board of McGill-Toolen Catholic High School. He was a member Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity Inc. He held many offices in the Prichard Alumni Chapter, including the office of Polemarch. To cherish his memory, he leaves Tracy W. Yancy, his devoted and loving wife of 19 years; two adorable and loving daughters, Vivian Savaron Yancy and Christina Frances Yancy; two devoted and caring sisters, Verna Jovita Yancy, M.D., of Houston and Brigetta Desinee Yancy, M.D., of New Orleans; godmother, Enola Stevenson, of Baton Rouge; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Willie Watson and Irmatean Watson; brothers-in-law, William Watson, Charles Watson and Christopher and wife Aneesha Watson; devoted and caring niece, Deshondra "Dee Dee" Bryan, of New Orleans; godson, William Watson II; nephew, Trevon Connors; and niece, Kaelyn Leverett. Milan leaves behind a host of other relatives, friends and co-workers. Visitation will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral hour at St. Mary Catholic Church. The Invisible Chapter Ceremony of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity will be held at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial donations be sent to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 2854 Old Shell Road, Mobile, AL 36607.
