William Alan Yancey, was born June 21, 1951. He passed away June 28, 2011 at Baptist Desoto after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Alan graduated from Overton High School in 1969 and attended Memphis State University, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Alan was a member of the Episcopal Church. He worked for Swift Ice Cream Company with his father for 5 years. He then worked for Memphis Furniture Manufacturing Company in the 1970's and early 1980's first in the upholstery sewing room and then as a salesman. He then took his sales skills to Farrell Calhoun Paint Inc. where he has been a dedicated employee for the past 27 years. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Alan leaves his wife of almost 29 years Deborah Grinder Yancey, his daughter Amanda Ruth Yancey, the light of his life, and his parents Jacqueline Ann and Alvin Forrest Yancey. In addition, he leaves a host of family, friends, and great memories. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time at 2:30 p.m. Saturday July 2, 2011 at Memorial Park Funeral Home Fireside Chapel with the interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery-Memphis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to the American Cancer Society in remembrance of his battle with cancer.
