Leon T. Yancey, Jr.
Leon T. Yancey, Jr., 35, of Martinsburg, went to be with the Lord Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
Born December 28, 1975 in Bluefield, he was the son Leon T. Yancey, Sr., and Rosie (Burkhalter) Yancey, of Martinsburg.
Leon was a 1994 graduate of Martinsburg High School. He was a 1994 allstate football
player and also attended Potomac State College.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by four sisters, Lisa Yancey, of Washington, DC, Angela Mitchell, Sonjia Yancey and Tabitha Yancey, all of Martinsburg; five children, Daizia Arrae Orr-Yancey, Malik Tobias Knaggs, Leon Tobias DeAndre Yancey III, (also known as “Tre Henry”), and Te`von Marques Tobias Yancey and Sinzir Liam Tobias Yancey. He also leaves behind his nephews and nieces, Juan, Alexus, Capri, Christian, Falcan, Xerxees, Bobby, Jr., and Messiah. He is also survived by his devoted girlfriend, Mellisa Womeldorff and unborn son, which will be named Leon T. Yancey III. He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and devoted female friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ralph and Irene Burkhalter,
paternal grandparents, Jacob Rogers Prunty and Sherman and Merelene Dudley.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed Hall officiating. Interment will be held at Green Hill Cemtery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
