Vance Duean Yancey, 69, passed away quietly, surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday afternoon, March 22, 2011. He was born the youngest of twelve (12) children to the late Huston and Cassie Pearson Yancey, in Evening Shade, AR. He attended then Evening Shade High School from1957 to 1959. Vance spent many years of his life battling alcoholism, crossing lines and burning bridges. Being the stubborn, strong man that he was, he never gave up. He bravely overcame his addiction and began a new chapter of his life, which he lived to the absolute fullest. He bought a home, rebuilt relationships, and began to love and be loved. He was a simple man who loved the simple things. He enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, and watching "The Andy Griffith Show " on afternoon TV. He was a talented barber, an amazing woodworker, and proudly served twenty-four (24) years in the U.S. Army, Arkansas National Guard. Vance was preceded in death by his parents; by his ex-wife, Kathryn Yancey; by four (4) brothers, Noel, Virgil, Joe and Jeffie; and by four (4) sisters, Claria, Mildred, Norma and Essie. He leaves behind his son, Mark Yancey, of Poughkeepsie, AR, near Smithville; his daughter, Cassie Renee Yancey Hayes Borghesi (Steve), and two (2) grandchildren, Kaili and Jayden, all of Stonington, Conn., near Pawcatuck, CT; two (2) sisters, Lola Flynn (Ash Flat, AR) and Cliffie Berry (Memphis, TN); one (1) brother, Stanley Yancey (Melbourne, AR); and by his closest family members, nephew Bill Yancey (Elaine) and their children and grandchildren, who gave him the nickname, "Uncle". A private family ceremony will be held at the Sharp County Cemetery in Evening Shade, AR, in June, 2011. Announcements will be sent.
