Dempsey was a World War II Veteran, a retired dozer operator, a deacon and member of the Weeks Baptist Church, an old fashion cattle and horse farmer. The best husband and father in the world. He is preceded in death by his wife JoAnn McDaniel Yancey, his father Samuel William Yancey, his mother Rachell Velma Hunsucker Yancey, and one brother Kenneth Yancey. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Lewis Payne and granddaughter of the home Misty Dawn Payne; two grandsons, Terry Payne of Opolo, Arkansas, Johnny Payne of Harrison, Arkansas; one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Annette Yancey and one granddaughter Teaira Rea Yancey; three sisters, Nadine and Frank Nicholas of Houston, Texas, Wanda Evans of Houston, Texas, and Laverne and Buel Owens of Copperas Cove, Texas; and one brother, Charles A. and Jane Yancey of Kansas City, Kansas. Funeral services under the direction of Martin Funeral Home were held on Thursday, June 24, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. at Weeks Baptist Church at Weeks, Arkansas. Larry Free and Wayne Fowler officiated. Pallbearers were Terry Payne, Tracy Threatt, Peyton Webster, Ralph Cagle, Buster Snellgrove, and Caleb Free. Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Joe Robinson, Ed Underwood, Bob Griffin.
