Andrew Harner Yancey
Andrew Harner Yancey, 90, of Harrisonburg, passed away Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Yancey was born Sept. 1, 1920, in Harrisonburg. He was a son of the late William Layton and Pearl Hilton Harner Yancey.
He graduated from Keezletown High School in 1936. Andrew served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. Following his military service, he attended Purdue University.
Mr. Yancey developed and operated Melrose Farms with his wife and sons. He was active in Fellowship Methodist Church. He later attended Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Mr. Yancey was a member of the Fort Harrison Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, serving as its president for two terms.
On July 25, 1952, he married Elizabeth Josephine Harrison, who preceded him in death June 29, 2010.
Mr. Yancey is survived by three sons, Thomas H. Yancey and wife, Mary Ann, of Falls Church, Richard H. Yancey and wife, Deborah, of Harrisonburg, and James M. Yancey and wife, Jean, of Harrisonburg; and a brother, Walter Yancey of Luray.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church with Father Daniel Robayo officiating. Burial with military honors followed at Lacey Spring Cemetery.
