Graveside services for Caroline Yancey will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Presbyterian cemetery.
For many years associated with The News and The Daily Advance, she died later Monday night in her home, 132 Linden Ave.
Caroline Yancey had been secretary for the late Senator Carter Glass, the late Carter Glass Jr. and Carter Glass III, presently general manager of The News and Daily Advance.
At the time of her death she was secretary to Thomas R, Glass, assistant general manager and executive editor of The News and Daily Advance. She was also Garden Club editor for the newspapers. She held several different jobs on the paper having been radio and TV editor and had written feature articles from time to time.
Although she had devoted most of her life to the newspaper business in Lynchburg, Caroline Yancey held jobs in New York and Washington.
Born Nov. 8, 1902 at Cedar Grove, the home of her grandparents in Bedford County, she was the daughter of the later Robert Davis Yancey and Rosa Faulkner Yancey. Her father, known as Captain Bob Yancey, was for more than 35 years commonwealth attorney for Lynchburg.
Her mother, Rosa Faulkner Yancey, was a writer and historian whose book Lynchburg and It’s Neighbors, gives genealogical background of many local families.
Caroline Yancey was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal and formerly belonged to the Appalachian Trail club.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. John Bell Williams, of Richmond, and a brother, Henry Yancey of West River, Md.
