PELHAM — Mr. Franklin R. Yancey, 71, of 5379 Allison Road, Pelham, N.C., died Saturday, September 26, 2009, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.
He was a native of Caswell County and the son of the late Odie Yancey and Mary Graves Yancey, born October 3, 1937. He was a member of Red Hill Missionary Baptist church. He was also a member of the American Legion and NAACP.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.
He was a employee of Miller Brewer in Eden, N.C., where he was a retake and select operator before retirement.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Mariah Evans; two brothers, Marshall Yancey and James Yancey.
His survivors are his wife, Mrs. Lillie Foster Yancey, of the home; two daughters, Ms. Rene Yancey of Greensboro, and Mrs. Rita Yancey Evans (Maurice) of High Point; one grandchild, Chanceler Evans; two brothers, Clarence Phillip Yancey (Marjorie) of Eden and Willard Yancey of Yanceyville; one sister, Mrs. Virginia Y. Brock (Wayne) of Maryland; five brothers-in-law, eight sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, at Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Gregory Hopkins will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
A viewing will be from 2 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Fulton Funeral Home Chapel.
