Sondra Lee Yancy , 50 , of Akron , Ohio , formerly of Evansville , died Sunday , June 4 , 2000.She was found in her car , the coroner in Akron is investigating the death.
She was a licensed social worker by the state of Ohio.She was a homeless outreach specialist for the YWCA in Canton , Ohio , and had developed programs funded by the federal government to reduce the homeless population.
In 1998 she began working as an administrative assistant for Akron University.
She was a graduate of the University of Southern Indiana.
Surviving are a daughter , Nicole Rodriguez at home ; a son , Duran at home ; her mother , Elaine R. Yancy of Evansville ; three sisters , Eventa Jackson of Baltimore and Deborah Franklin and Yolanda Yancy of Evansville ; and four brothers , Layton Yancy of Chicago , Dewayne Yancy of Orlando , Fla. , Clifton Yancy of Los Angeles and Paul Mercer of Boston.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mason Bros. Memorial Chapel , Eventa Jackson officiating , with burial in Sunset Memorial Garden.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday , with a wake from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
