Reverend Donald Bryant Yancey was born on December 26,
1930 in Charlottesville, Virginia to the parents of
the late Booker Talmadge and Bernice Inez Yancey. He
was the third child born of this union. On October
21, 2004 the spirit of Reverend Yancey went to dwell
with our Savior, Jesus Christ.
After attending high school, Reverend Yancey enlisted
in the U.S. Army serving as a military police and
paratrooper in the Korean War. He earned an Honorable
Discharge. When Reverend Yancey's tour of duty was
over he moved to Detroit, Michigan where he met and
married his wife Marian Nancy Tubman. To this union
was born Patricia Ann and Kenneth Donald.
At an early age Reverend Yancey was baptized and
accepted the Lord as his personal savior. This
relationship, rooted in the word of God, stood until
it was time for him to meet the Lord.
Reverend Yancey had an unquenchable thirst for
knowledge. Education was his passion. He graduated
from William Tyndale College in 1972 earning a B.A. in
Religious Education. In 1974, he received a Masters
Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University
of Detroit. In 1976, Reverend Yancey was ordained at
Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. He was very
proud that the Lord had blessed him in this special
way. Reverend Yancey received a Master's Degree in
1984 from Ashland Theological Seminary continuing his
commitment and passion to serve the Lord.
Reverend Yancey knew the Lord and was determined that
everyone else know the Lord as well. He became a
religious instructor at Charles Mason Bible College
(C.O.G.I.C.), Wayne County Community College, State of
Michigan and Detroit Bible Institute, Detroit,
Reverend Yancey worked as a postal clerk for the U.S.
Postal Service for 35 years from which he retired.
During his employment there he set up a counseling
program for postal employees.
After his ordination Reverend Yancey served as
Associate Minister at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist
Church until his condition of disablement. If you
knew Reverend Yancey, you knew that he knew God. For
there was no greater topic of conversation than
witnessing for Christ.
