Yancey, Warren Edward
Mr. Warren Edward Yancey, 85, of Dirty Ankle Road, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at Lutheran Home West in Hickory, NC. Born June 14, 1922, in Burke County, he was a son of the late Joseph Curtis Yancey and Della Irene Hudson Yancey. He was a retired finish repairer from Drexel Furniture Company Plant 3 in Morganton. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and sang with the Kadesh Family Choir. He was Sunday school superintendent for over 30 years and was a deacon for over 50 years. He was also a US Army veteran and served during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Iva Aline Pruitt Yancey; second wife, Willie Secrest Yancey; and brother, Howard Yancey. He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Linda Johnson and Everette and Sheila Martin and Buddy, all of Lawndale; five grandchildren, Todd Johnson, Rev. Bruce and Nicole Johnson, Natasha and John Kiser, Darryl Martin and Chastity Martin; one great-grandchild, Samuel Johnson; two step sons, Johnny Secrest of Hickory and Scott Secrest of Morganton; two step daughters, Jackie Crouch of Statesville and Hazel Poppe of Missouri. The funeral will be at Zion Hill Baptist Church on Tuesday at 3 p.m. with the Revs. Harold Cantrell, John Shaffer, Burl Sain and Bruce Johnson officiating. The casket will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
