Melvin Jackson Yancey Jr., “Sonny”, 55, of Monroe, VA died Aug. 15 2007 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
He is survived by his best friend and devoted wife of 35 years, Judy Lloyd Yancey.
Born July 9, 1952, in South Boston, he was a son of Melvin Jackson Yancey Sr. and was preceded in death by his mother, Rose M. Jones. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Yancey Combs.
He was retired from Weyerhaeuser Paper Co. and attended First Baptist Church of Monroe.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two brothers, Christopher R. Yancey and wife, Bobbi, of Evington and Jay Yancey and wife, Melinda, of Forest; two sisters, Maxine Y. Taliaferro and husband, Ronnie, of Lynchburg, and Lisa Y. McNeil and husband, P.D., of Zebulon, N.C.; step-mother, Natalie Yancey; son-in-law, Keith Combs; grandmother, Virginia Hazenbein; three grandchildren, C.J. Wright and fiancée, Debbie Tice, Candice and Hannah Wright; two great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
A funeral service was conducted Aug. 18 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Glenn Coleman. Interment took place in Virginia Memorial Park.
