Thomas O. Yancey
The funeral for Thomas O. Yancey, 80, of 786 Charlie Tapp Rd., who died Friday, July 1, 2005, at his home, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 4, in Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by Elder Jimmy Gray and the Rev. Chris Sorensen. Burial will be in Providence Cemetery.
Mr. Yancey was a native of Person County, the son of the late Jimmy Yancey and Willie and Hallie Lunsford Dickey. His late son was Jimmy Yancey and his late daughter was Loraine Yancey.
He retired from the N.C. Department of Corrections in 1984.
He was a Primitive Baptist and a member of the Helena Hunting Club.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Esther Gravitte Yancey; two sons, Cecil Yancey and wife, Kathy, and Thomas Obiediah Yancey Jr., and wife, Norma, all of Roxboro; four sisters, Nancy Yancey of Roxboro, Roxanna Dudley of Raleigh, Brenda Smith of Roxboro, and Pauline Garrett of Graham; and two grandchildren, Ryan Yancey and Gary Keane.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, July 3, at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be Randy Blalock, Donald Lunsford, Jack Harris, Wayne Dickey, Larry Hicks and Henry Glasscock.
