Robert Lee Yancey, 88, son of Thornton M. and Alice B. Bendinger Yancey, was born Nov. 16, 1918, at Chicago, Ill. He died April 26, 2007, at the Kabul Nursing Home at Cabool.
Mr. Yancey graduated from Hatch Elementary and Oak Park Township High School in 1936. He attended Oak Park Junior College and graduated from the University of Chicago.
He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1941 to 1944 in the Pacific Theatre.
He married Frances Osterbur Jan. 22, 1944, at Oak Park, Ill.
He was a chemist and self-employed grain merchant and Realtor. He lived in Ridgeville, Harden and Paxton, Ill., and moved to Cabool in 2004.
He was a member of the Lutheran church in Paxton and Houston.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing and reading.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter.
Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Leah L. Matthias of Carpentersville, Ill., Marla M. Magiera of Lombard, Ill., and Janice J. Daniels of Raymondville; one son, Robert B. Yancey of West Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Betty Jane Due of Mendota, Ill.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services under the direction of Ford-Baier Funeral Home of Paxton, Ill., will be at a later date.
