S. H. Yancey Passes at 81 in McDowell
Marion - Samuel Hanna Yancey, 81, member of one of McDowell's most prominent families and a descendant of pioneer settlers here - died Thursday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Proctor.
He had been in ill health for several months.
A Native of McDowell County, he was the son of the late John and Mary Fleming Yancey.
He was married to Miss Elizabeth Rowena Neal, who died in 1936.
For a number of years Yancey was associated with the Georgia Pine Turpentine Company. He lived in New York and Georgia for some time but had returned to McDowell County many years ago. He had lived at his birthplace, Woodlawn, north of Marion, until recently.
He was the oldest member of the Marion First Presbyterian Church which he joined as a youth.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 AM in the home of his daughter, by the Rev. Dr Carl W. McMurray.
Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery here.
Surviving are his daughter and a number of nieces and nephews.
Nephews will be pall bearers.
