James Yancey, 82, LaCenter World War II Marine Veteran
Mr. James Moss Yancey, 82, of LaCenter, passed away Sunday, September 10 at 7 p.m. at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia. Mr. Yancey was a member of First Baptist Church in LaCenter, where he served as Music Director for 40 years. He had also been a Deacon in the Church. A World War II Marine veteran, he was a member of the American Legion Post #31 in Paducah. He was also a member of the International Machinist Workers Union. Surviving are a son, James Yancey Jr. of Wade, Mississippi; a daughter, Linda Yancey of Dallas, TX; and four grandchildren, Teri Oliver Redman of Atlanta, Georgia, and Brian James Yancey, Beaux Yancey and John Landon Stennett, all of Wade, Mississippi. Mr. Yancey was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Yancey; two brothers, George B. Yancey and Gordon E. Yancey and a sister, Mary Ann Montgomery. His parents were George E. and Elsie Moss Yancey. Services were Wednesday, September 14 at First Baptist Church of LaCenter. Burial followed at LaCenter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to LaCenter Baptist Church Building Fund, 421 Broadway, LaCenter, KY 42056. Morrow Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
