Looking for any information on a Mary Beatrice Wixon and Edward Doore and their families.
The clues I have to go off of are from a 1992 letter from The Children’s Aid Society in regards to the surrender and adoption of a baby boy name Edward.
Edward was born on 05 Oct 1916 in Jersey City, New Jersey at St. Katherine’s Home.
The parents are listed as Mary Beatrice Wixon and Edward Doore and that they were not married. The letter indicated that the father, Edward Doore, was from Rochester, New York and that the mother, Mary Wixon, was born in Bedford, New York and was a Protestant. Mary’s address is listed as Brunswick Home in Amityville, Suffolk, New York, (which as far as I’ve found was a privately run mental institution at the time).
Edward was surrendered, by his mother, to The Children’s Aid Society on 02 October 1917.
On 09 October 1917, he was taken west on an Orphan Train and placed with a family who later adopted him on 28 June 1919.
(I am not related to anyone in this query, I am doing some research for a friend’s mother-in-law.)
Thanks for reading!! Christine
