Daniel was married by Henry Holland on June 2, 1870 to Sarah Caroline Benson, the daughter of Senator James Rea Benson (1807-1885) and his wife, Mary Anne nee Ingersoll (c. 1807-1877). Sarah was the 5th of 8 children. There is a photograph of J. R. Benson at the Library of Parliament web site. Sarah is buried at Victoria Lawn Cemetery, St. Catharines (from OCFA and Daniel not listed).
Sarah was born about 1848 in Ont. (backdated from age 33 in 1881), and probably born at St. Catharines, but maybe Ingersoll, Ont.
Daniel Wilkie age 24, born in Que., Scottish origin, was a bank manager in St. Catharines, Ont. in 1871 (div. 3, p 97, C-9,922 per index to 1871 census of Ontario at NAC's ArchviaNet web site). In 1881 Daniel, 34, was a cashier, Imperial Bank, in Toronto and they had three children, Marion A., 10; Chas. S., 7; and Arthur B., 4; as well as a nurse, Clara Whitmarsh, 30. (see www.familysearch.org
, 1881 census). Arthur's middle name is likely Benson.
Wilkie, Sask. is named after Daniel R. Wilkie (see www.townofwilkie.com/history.html
I would like to know more exactly in 1914 Daniel died and where he is buried. Did they have any more children? When did Sarah die? Would you have a page no. and location for James R. Benson in the 1851 Census in either Ingersoll or St. Catharines. I already have him for the following censuses (1861, 1871, 1881). I would like to confirm Mary Ann Benson date of death as Mar. 4, 1877 (from the IGI, place of death not reported and, of course, sources not provided). I have not yet seen obituaries for James and Mary Ann Benson and assistance would be appreciated. I am about to order the cemetery transcriptions for Victoria Lawn Cemetery, section P as I am interested in other Bensons buried there.
