Hi I have been tracing my family tree and would like to hear from anybody who has connections with the Whartons of England. I have discovered my great great grandmother is Bathsheba Wharton born in 1858 in Cumbria. After a lot of digging I have discovered her mother & father were Alice Mullen born 1828 in durham and Johnson Wharton born 1824 in devon, they were travellers. Bathsheba married James Stewart born 1860 in Cumbria. They moved to glasgow and became coal merchants & horse dealers. Their son Johnston married Elizabeth Campbell whose family were also travellers. My dad was called Johnston and my mum told me he could speak Romany. In Bathsheba's line I have discovered family members called Keziah, Uriah, Gilderoy, Cornation, Casey, Matilda, Oliver. One of bathsheba's son's Isiaha married a Jane Boswell whose father was Joshua Boswell from Cheshire and mother was a Pheasant Heron from Yorkshire. All families seem to be travellers apart from the Stewart line. Hawkers, tin smiths, basket makers, horse dealers. They lived in Durham, Cumbria, Devon, Scotland basically all over. Ages etc differ in ever census so don't go just by the dates. The names seem to be the key to tracking. I would love to here from anybody who has any information on any Whartons and i could share what I have.
