I have also been searching the children of Wm. Wells and Sweet Breeze. I will copy what we got from the Indiana State Library.--

Your inquiry of 27 May to the Genealogy Division has been referred to
the Indiana Division. There seems to be a difference of opinion
concerning William Wells' Indian wife or wives. Donald B. Grissom in
William Wells, Indian Agent (Old Fort News. V. 42 No. 2, 1979) p. 52
says that Wells married the sister of Little Turtle. Some other sources
indicate that he married Little Turtle's daughter, not his sister, while
others believe that he married first the sister and following her death,
the daughter of Little Turtle. Grissom says that Wells and Sweet
Breeze, the daughter, had three daughters and two sons. Harvey Lewis
Carter, A Frontier Tragedy: Little Turtle and William Wells (The Old
Northwest. V. 6, No 1, Spring 1980) agres with this, saying that Sweet
Breeze, daughter of Little Turtle , became Wells' second wife and the
mother of two sons and three daughters (p. 5.) Paul S. Hutton, in
William Wells: Frontier Scout and Indian Agent (Indiana Magazine of
History V. 84, No. 3, September 1978, also agrees but says that one of
the sons had been killed in an accident so that may account for the fact
that some sources say that Wells had only one son. The First Lady of
the Wolcott House by Rachael B. Crawford (Northwest Ohio Quarterly, V.
50, No. 23, Summer 1978) says that the date of William Wells' marriage
to Sweet Breeze, Little Turtle's daughter, has not been recorded. They
had three daughters and one son. Wells' will, written in 1810, listed
his four children by Sweet Breeze as Ann Wells, Rebecca Wells, Willliam
Wayne Wells and Mary (Polly) Wells. There seems to be no record of
Sweet Breeze's death, but she was a young woman when she died, the
author goes on. According to Wells' will he had one child, Samuel
Geiger Wells, by his next wife, Mary Geiger of Louisville. Additional
information about descendants can be found in this publication and in
Early Chicago, Fort Dearborn, an John Wentworth, which in
Apprndix A has information about the Wells family. The latter is on
microfiche in our Genealogy Division, which also has a book William
Wells and His Descendants 1755-1909 and other books on the Wells family,
some of which may pertain to this man. You would be welcome to come
here and search these sources. We could supply photocopies of the
materials cited here for .25 a shot. We would send an invoice with the
photocopies. M Wright
