William Mitchell Ward 1839-1925 was my 3rd Great Grandfather.
He and his brother Newton Jasper Ward were the only survivors of the 1854 Ward Wagon Train massacre by the Snake Indians in Idaho.
In 1894 at the 40th anniversary of the massacre, William and his bother were both asked to write a memoir. Newton's memoir has long been public and often quoted. The document went first to William's daughter Louella. Aunt Ella gave it shortly before she died at 99, to my grandmother. But my Grandmother and then my mother held on to William's document keeping it secret from even the extended family. My mother passed in 2009 and it went to my cousin. Their son took very good photo's of each page of the document and sent them to me. I have transcribed them now and put them on a website for all to see. Enjoy!http://williamward.shutterfly.com/
