Hello Bronwyn, I am originally from the home of the Wanoa people. Thank you for your message which I have just received. The name Wanoa means : Wa = Time or space...noa = means free of tapu. In my travels to Tahiti
recently, the name Wanoa is believed to be a family name of a group of people ( our ancestors) who lived in a place called Opoa which is close to the most sacred of marae of Polynesia. They were a family of royal lineage. As the family grew up, sons were placed on a beautiful Island paradise known today as Maupiti or (Maurua) as it was called then. The family Wanoa is scattered all over the world. My father was Wirenu Wanoa eldest child of Matauru and Ripeka Wanoa who resided in Tikitiki, East Coast.
I have four children and six grandchildren.
I work as a teacher of Maori language in TE Atatu Auckland. Please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
. I would love to hear more about you.
