Many thanks for the help. I thought such was the case. When John and Marian Elkington celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, the Argus newspaper announcement stated that Marian was the daughter of Henry Tilden Smith of Brede Park Hastings. The current Vinehall was apparently built by Henry Tilden Smith,(one of the sons named in the will) in the late 1830's.The original Vinehall he inherited was a more modest affair. All 5 sons inherited large estates, whilst the 4 daughters inherited comparitively small cash bequests, possibly because the marriage act meant that any money or property the daughters inherited would become the property of their respective husbands.
By the way, I found a delightful website relating to the Wane family, called Wye is for Wycombe, created by Sally, a descendant of Isaac Wane, if any Wane researcher hasn't yet discovered it. It is chock full of wonderful photographs, poems and information relating to the Wane's (as well as other ancestors of the author)
