Re: Waddell/Rymer

I have been trying to work out where Archibald Douglas Waddell's name came from to see if that helps with his origins. It just doesn't seem to fit with the other names for his family using the Scottish naming patterns and I haven't been able to tie the Waddell's in with any Archibald Douglas. Perhaps he was named after a popular figure of that time period?
I can't really see how Elizabeth Rymer (Gilchrist) would end up marrying a baker (would they move in the same social circles?)when there was still the hope of some money to be had from her grandfather's estate. And is the William Waddell mentioned in one of the many Rymer court cases as being a creditor of Elizabeth (Gilchrist) Waddell any relation to her husband, Archibald Douglas Waddell? Is there some way to check if Archibald Douglas Waddell was listed as a solicitor's apprentice or clerk?
As for the Rymers - perhaps finding out more about the Frith connection and where that family originated may hold a clue? It's a classic case of the more you find out, the less you know!
