VINING, FRANK PITTMAN Frank "Tex" Vining, died February 9, at home in La Jolla. He was born in Palestine, Texas December 13, 1916, and came to San Diego in 1936, and later formed a construction business with his life long friend, John Worobec. He later worked for Consolidated Vultee (now General Dynamics) for 35 years, with years between as a San Diego fireman. He was an outdoors man, first as a surveyor, then fisherman, golfer and backpacker. He built several homes and had a complete workshop in his garages, along with a library of "how to" books. One of his proudest accomplishments was the racial integration of his factory during World War II. He was a founder of the local California Democratic Club, an early supporter of Planned Parenthood of San Diego and served as its treasurer, a member of the Sierra Club, the Point Loma Blue Lodge, the Shriners and the Scottish Rite and the Whispering Palms Golf Club. He leaves his wife of 28 years, Addie; four daughters, Patti Rearwin, Penny Martinez, Judy Webb and Salli Vining Sachse; seven grandchildren, Lisa Webb Fellows, Sydney Webb Beach, David Webb, Cathy Wyer, Cinda Rearwin, and Laura and Marcel Martinez; two sisters, Josie Sewall and Billie Jasinski; as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and great granddaughters. Special thanks to Dr. Howard Williams, San Diego Hospice and special attendant, Gustavo Martinez. In lieu of flowers, he asked that contributions be made to the Laura Martinez Fund, c/o Addie Vining, 5910 Sagebrush Rd. La Jolla, Ca 92037. Published in the San Diego Union-Tribune on 2/23/2003.
