Hello. In reply, I think Tutas is probably a Baltic or Old Prussian name. I know of three Tutas family groups in the US. The first was a group of Tutas immigrants who settled or passed through (late 19th-early 20th century) southwestern Ohio (specifically Hamilton, Ohio); some went on to Chicago, Milwaukee and Ozaukee County, Wisconsin. The common ancestor of this 1st group was said to be Albert Tutas (who did not immigrate) from what is now Poland ( [Updated 2015:] generally north of Warsaw). The 2nd group I've heard of was immigrant Adulphus or Adolf Tutas and wife Caroline and their descendants, who are associated with origins in the Marinette County, Wisconsin area. A 3rd group I've heard of descended from immigrant Alexander and Eleanor Tutas and is associated with origins in the Wayne County, Michigan area. I don't know of any connection between the three groups. There are probably some other Tutas family groups in the US, but these are the primary groups I've seen in records and on the internet. Hope this info is of interest. - Ron Tutas
