Hi My name is Eleanor Campbell nee Turtle and my grandfather was Wallace Turtle born 1906. I have found out that his grandfather my great great grandfather James Turtle owned a hosiery factory in Belfast - the public records office Belfast have 6 volumes of documents relating to that business and as I have just started researching I have not had access to them to date. Also, his son (my grandfathers uncle John Pollock Turtle) fought at the Somme and was injured on the 1st day - he returned to the war in January 1917 and was killed in action and is now buried in Siossons cemetry in France - he died around 20th July 1918 just before the end of the war. He was an apprentice shipwright before the war and was a member of Sinclair Seamens Church in Belfast - there is a Stained Glass Window in memory of the fallen.
My grandfather Wallace worked for the General Post Office as an electrician and died aged 81. I remember my grandfather telling me that his ancesters were originally from Drumbo near Lisburn Co. Antrim.
