For those of you with Native American Indian ancestors, known or suspected, and who have heard the terms "Black Dutch" or "Black Irish" used to describe them, I just found some interesting web pages which may be of interest to you in your research.
In particular, one article caught my attention. It is titled "So You Were
Told You Were Black Dutch or Irish". Very interesting article. Here is the link: http://rosecity.net/cherokee/blackdutch.html
There is some excellent background information here and it explained many hings to me about these phrases and where they came from. It is on the home page for the Northern Cherokee Nation of the Louisiana Territory at http://rosecity.net/cherokee/
Some great links, stories, etc. These
links may be of interest to others researching Native American Indian tribes
and in particular Cherokee.
