LOUDONVILLE: Jon M. Truax, 80, of Loudonville, Ohio died Thursday evening, June 6, 2013 in Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio following a brief illness.
Jon was born Jan. 25, 1933 in Richland County, Ohio and was the son of the late Marshall Mann and Kathleen Elizabeth (Bartels) Truax.
He was a 1952 graduate of Mansfield, Ohio Senior High School and a Loudonville resident since 1966.
He was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean War where he was stationed in Europe and in San Bernadino, CA.
He was the owner and president of Truax Printing Inc. of Loudonville and Ashland from 1967 until his retirement in 2005.
He was also the publisher of the Loudonville Times during the early '70's until 1996.
He was a member of the Loudonville United Methodist Church serving on the administrative council and as a substitute Sunday school teacher.
He was a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Loudonville and member and past president of the Loudonville-Perrysville Athletic Booster Club. He was instrumental in the construction of the Loudonville High School Field House and was awarded the Dad of Dad's Award in 1983.
In 1999 he was given the Ashland University Eagles Wrestling Man of the Year Award.
He was a life member of VFW Post 8586 of Perrysville and American Legion Post 257 of Loudonville. Jon enjoyed woodworking and gardening but his passion was following his children and grandchildren's sports and activities.
He is survived by his wife, Salome "Sally" L. (Ayers) Truax, whom he married July 20, 1957; 1 daughter, Jacqueline (Thomas) Martin of Mt. Vernon; 5 sons: Bruce Anthony (Kathryn) Truax of Mansfield, Thomas Joel (Coralita) Truax of Perrysville, David J. (Jennifer) Truax of Mason, Daniel Ayers (Katrina E.) Truax of Lakeville, and Zackery Nathaniel (Bree) Truax of Ashland; 23 grandchildren: Benjamin Andrew Truax, Bryan Alexander Truax, Colleen Salome (Rick) Virgili, Thomas Joel "TJ" Truax II, Muriel Salome Truax, Jon Marshall Truax, Bruce Edwin Ayers Truax, Hillary Lucille Truax, William Howard Truax, Wendy Marie Truax, Laura Lusanna Truax, Peter Goodwin Truax, Zoe Sue Truax, Rudyard Worth Truax, Nathanael Joseph Truax, Andrew Conrad Truax, Luke Isaiah Truax, Emily Marie Truax, Michael Daniel Truax, Sophia Rose Truax, Kerrin Elizabeth Moravy, Sarah Ann Truax, Ethan Christopher Truax; 2 step-grandchildren: Shawn Anthony (Nicole) Martin, and Stacy Thomas (Symontee) Martin; 1 great-grandchild: Aiden Lucas Virgili; 9 step-great-grandchildren: Heather Stouffer, Shelby Martin, Kaycee Martin, Sarah Martin, Ada Martin, Daleno Martin, Donavon Martin, Dominique Martin, and Danae Martin; 1 brother: Michael G. Truax of Mansfield; and 1 brother-in-law: Joseph Loch of Galion. He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-grandson: Pfc. Ryan Martin; 1 sister: Dawna Loch; and 2 brothers: Marshall M. and George Truax.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 11 at 10:30 AM in the United Methodist Church of Loudonville with Rev. Bob Mitchell officiating.
Burial with military honors by the VFW and American Legion will be in Jelloway Cemetery, Knox County. Friends may call Monday, June 10 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in LINDSEY FUNERAL HOME, LOUDONVILLE, OHIO.
