Your message was over a year ago, so I don't know if you'll get this or not; however, if you look up Owen Fitzpen Phippen, Wikipedia has information as to the Phippens who ended up in Massachusetts and the Thigpens who ended up in the Carolinas. It also makes the connection that David Phippen was Owen's brother and it was Owen's son who apparently changed the name. Owen's grandson, James Thigpen, was the first immigrant to North Carolina. At some point, according to the book The Thigpen Tribe, both families came together to memorialize their connected ancestry. Additionally, I, a Thigpen descendant, took a DNA test, and have common DNA with Phippens in Massachusetts.
