The book "Carolina Cradle: Settlement of the Northwest Carolina Frontier, 1747-1762" by Robert W. Ramsey contains the following information about Robert Tate:
The will of William Tait (or Tate), proved in Derry township, Lancaster County [Pennsylvania], in 1749, refers to the children of Robert Tate." William H. Egle stated that Robert Tate was on the Reverend John Roan's list of those paying stipends and left Derry township after 1745. In 1742, Robert Tate witnessed a deed from James Boyd to James Huey on Looney's Mill Creek in the Shenandoah Valley." In 1750, the sheriff of Augusta County reported that Robert Tate had "gone to carolina."
