I am looking for family information about my family tree which originates from Thomas (b.1793-1800 d. 1875)and Frances(ka) (Getz) Tabaka (b. 1811-1817 d. 1898). They emigrated to the US from Posnan Poland (then Prussia) via Hamburg in 1847; arriving in New York. They appeared on they 1850 census in Milwaukee Wisconsin under the surname Tobacco and on the 1860 census in Barton Washington Co.,WI under the surname Tobaka. From there, most of the family moved to LaSalle County Illinois and eventually settled in Champaign County, Illinois.
The eldest son Johan (aka John) moved to Minnesota with his wife Margaret Oberst. The second eldest son, Franz (aka Frank) stayed in Ivesdale, Champaign Co,IL. Michael moved to Iowa and changed his surname to Tabasinsky (and sometimes went by Mark). Mary married a John Glowcewsky and moved to Iowa. Kasimir (aka Charles) moved to Kansas and Washington state, then back to Kansas.
Franz/Frank, Michael, and Kasimir/Charles all fought in the Civil War in units from Wisconsin and Illinois under the surnames Tabaka, Tobaka, Tobacco, and Tabasinsky.
There are three other children about whom little is known; Catharina (b.~1843 Posnan), Verenicker (possibly Veronica, b. 1847), and Thomas (b. 1849 WI).
Thomas appears on Census records through 1870 (in Champaign Co. IL), but not after that. Susan appear only on the 1860 Census (in WI),
Catharina and Veronica appear only on the 1850 Census in Milwaukee. Catharina is old enough that she may have been married by 1860, but Veronica may have died before 1860 because she would have been only 13 in 1860 and should have been living with the family.
I would like to correspond with anyone who has information about this family, especially Veronica, Catharina, and those that moved to Iowa; though all information is welcome.
My ancestry goes through Franz (aka Frank).
