What is the authority that claims Martha Hall, buried Ebenezer Bap Ch Cem in York SC, wife of William Hall is actually Martha Suggs?
I found a deed that worries me, makes me think that long ago, a researcher saw the deed (which contains a typo) and incorrectly connected the dots, thus manufacturing that Martha Hall the wife of William Hall was the daughter of George Suggs of York SC.
Maybe it's true by family tradition? But the deed worries me. York Co SC DB L/29. In 1827, Nancy Suggs, the widow of Geo Suggs, conveys to her children "..to Martha Maser Hall, Laban Suggs, Isaac Suggs...." and so forth. Daughter Martha's surname is clearly "Hall" and separate from the odd middle name "Maser".
But loose records for George Sugg's estate clearly allow for all children to be matched up between the estate records and the 1827 York Co SC deed, and there is no Martha Hall. However, there is a son-in-law Charles MARSHALL. Thus, I am wondering if the clerk of court mis-transcribed from the original deed Martha "Marshall" as Martha "Mars Hall". The evidence including Martha's rare middle name points to this typo being true
And so I am now wondering if Hall family researchers possibly saw this deed long ago and simply connected the dots to Martha Hall who is buried in Ebenezer Bap Ch Cemetery in York Co SC. And we now have Martha Suggs Hall as "fact".
Anyone with any thoughts?
