For all the Stewart researchers, I have located a copy of an application for entry into sons of the American Revolution which incorporates the Stewart/Gates families to some extent. The dates do not match all my other research, but the document does provide the following document:

Daniel Stewart (dob 1722, died before 1790, died before 1790 - my year of his birth is 1788) is claimed to have been a private in Capt. Edward Bringham's company, Co.. Job Cushing's Reg. His service is listed as 7 days. His company was ordered to be mounted if possible and marched Aug. 21, 1777 to reinforce the Northern Army under the order of General Stark and Gen Lincoln, and proceeded to Hadley. The orders were counterordered. He was listed as enlisted as unmounted.

Per the 1954 application of his g-g-g-g-g-gransdon of Dr. George Ward Glann, who was born May 10, 1913, the line of his descent was:

Dr. GW Glann was son of Dr. Roy Carlton Glann born 6/6/1878, died 5/24/1938, and his wife Bertha Hanna Shedd, born 6-24-1886 and died 8 (?) -28-17, married 6-6-1906.

Dr. RC Glann was son of George Oscar Shedd, born 3-24-1858, died 5-20-1932, and his wife Sarah Lown (Loun?), born 11-28-1861, died 1-27-1943, marrried 9-8-1885.

GO Shedd was the son of Oscar Shedd, born Oscar Shedd, born 10-25-1828, died 7-2-1896, and Ardelia Gates, born 11-15-1830, died 6-27-1871, who were married 3-25-1857.

O. Shedd is the son of Ebenezer Stewart Gates, born 1806 smf forf 2-15-1650and wife Lorania Smith, born 1806forf 1850, married 1827

E. S. Gates was son of Joseph Gates, born 1778, died 1828, and Dulcena Stewart, born 1786, died 1862, married 1804.

J. Gates was son of Ebenezer Stewart, born 1763, died 1844, married to Relief Reed, born 1762, died 1845, married 1783.

Ebenezer Stewart was the son of Daniel Stewart, born 1722, died before 1790, and wife Lydia Cuttting (Gutting?), born 1722, died ______, married 1748.

Another line is contained in the application of Dr. Glann's DAR applikcation no. 38/8716 of Mrs. Susan Johnson of Montezuma Iowa, who also named Daniel Stewart as her ancestor.
