It turns out that we have Native American relatives in New Mexico that I knew nothing about until recently. Their name is Torrez. DNA does not lie, and we would all like to find the connection. There is an unverified story about five Stepp families from Indiana joining a wagon train heading west, that was attacked by Apaches in Arizona. The story goes that some Stepp babies were saved, and the male babies were traded to the Pima Indians who raised them and let them marry into the tribe. Apparently, there are, or were some Pima Indians in the Mesa area carrying the Stepp name. Does anyone have any information on this? Also, I am not even sure if this is related to the Torrez family.
