Lillie-
Have no idea what happened there. The computer had a "burp", I guess.
So happy to hear from you, I wondered if there were any other Splitlogs out there. My Mathias Splitlog had a son named Alex, so he may have named him after his brother. He also had a son, Richard, who was my great grandfather.
Mathias Splitlog built a town in the Delaware District of Indian Territory (Oklahoma) after settling in that area. He had a mill, school, wagon factory, post office and in the 1890s build a church. He became fairly wealthy and was well respected in this area. He became chief of the Seneca Indians in the 1890s. Their reservation is in the northeast corner of Oklahoma. He served inthe Union Army in the Civil War. as my grandmother, who was partly raised by Mathias and his wife, Eliza Charloe Barnett, remembered his army uniform hanging in the closet at their house. The church that he built is now on the National Register of Historic Places. It is located at Cayuga, Oklahoma. There is nothing left there of the town now but the church and the family cemetery. You can read some about Mathias at

Would be happy to compare notes on our Splitlogs.
