Groarke, Ireland to Lancashire

Hi,

I'm trying to trace the Groarke family that came from Ireland and settled in Lancashire, in particular Warrington (now Cheshire).

My grandfather was Sydney Groarke and was born in Warrington in May 1893. He had brothers and sisters (John, Ellen, Thomas, and James) all born in Winwick, Warrington. He married Florence Ratcliffe from Warrington.

My great grandfather was John Groarke and came from Ireland according to Sydney's birth and marriage certificates. His occupation in 1881 was a police constable in Windle, Lancashire when he was unmarried (1881 census) and later from the 1901 Census he was a civil servant. He married Jane (Bennett?) from St Helens who was born in 1860. Calculating from the census returns he was born in 1855 in Ireland.

I can't find him on the 1871 or 1861 census so maybe he was still in Ireland then. I also can't trace any marriage certificate for him and Jane or his death record.

Can anyone help with the Ireland roots or anything from the UK please?

Regards,

Mike

Can anyone help?
