Classification: Biography
Enoch & Lola had a daughter, Elizabeth Lillian Smith who married Edward Blacklock at Benzie Co., Michigan. I am related to this Blacklock line.

After the 1900 US census, Enoch seems to disappear. Lola declares herself a widow in the 1910 census; however, the 1910 census of the Michigan State Prison at Jackson, Michigan lists as one of its inmates, a certain "Enoch B.Smith," age 63, born abt. 1847 Canada, divorced. Father born Canada; mother born Ireland. The 1920 census for "Hope Hall -- Volunteers of America" at Chicago,Illinois, lists Enoch Smith as one of its inmates, divorced, serving as "Laundryman," born Canada, age 74. Father born Canada; mother born Ireland. Then, the 1930 census for Ontario, San Bernardino Co., California has Enoch Smith, age 85, widowed, born abt 1845 Canada. Father born Canada; mother born Ireland. Enoch is living with two ladies, one of whom is from Michigan. I have not found him in the 1940 census.

A curious piece of information appears at "" The writer states, "Lola, Enoch, and their daughter June, were admitted to the membership of Blaine Christian Church at Putney Corners through baptism, May 5,1901. Later, according to church records, Lola and Enoch were excluded from membership, though the reason was not given." One must wonder why they were excommunicated from their church. The next time we find Enoch in 1910, he is in prison. What did he do? A small article from the Flint (Michigan) Journal of September 16, 1909, may answer the question:

"Frankfort (MI) -- "Mrs. Enoch Smith has secured a warrant for the arrest of her divorced husband on a charge of having set fire to her barn and carriage building. When the pair were divorced a year ago, the woman bought out her husband's interest in the property. The sheriff is looking for Enoch."

Any other information would be appreciated.
