SOMERSET: Harold Joseph Smith, 82, of Somerset, died peacefully at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday evening, February 5, 2013 at the FairHope Hospice in Lancaster, Ohio.

Harold was born August 2, 1930 in Somerset, Ohio, the son of the late Albert G. and Sarah Isabelle Reichley Smith.

He was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Somerset Volunteer Fire Dept., and was president of Somerset Little League.

He retired from Rockwell International in 1991.

Harold loved family gatherings, playing euchre and watching harness racing.

Harold is survived by his wife of 59 years, Miriam I. Dupler Smith, whom he married November 27, 1953; two daughters, Deb (Bob) Giehls of Columbus, Ohio and Barb Nash (Terry Culp) of Canal Winchester, Ohio; a son, Mike (Stephanie) Smith of Somerset; seven grandchildren, Andy Nash (Shelly), Nicole Nash, Nanette (Levi) Thompson, Kevin (Courtney) McConaha, Crystal Smith (Jimmy), Michael Lee Smith II, and Justin Jay Smith; eight great-grandchildren, Logan Nash, Graclyn Nash Aneshansley, Kerry, Kaleena and Corrine Thompson, Nevaeh Smith, Noah Wilson, and Karsyn McConaha; two sisters; six brothers; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Donald J. Smith (2009); one sister, and six brothers.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2013 at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset where Vigil service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Friday evening. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery.
