wow--you are the first person that seems to know anything about the skay last name. my husband's family is dying to know anything about their heritage. they know literally nothing. that or whatever other skays can tell them. how did you hear from the man in ireland? my husband and i ordered a "book of skays" for one of those companies that does little books about peoples' last names, and we called a few of the people, and one man in minnesota i believe it was told us something similar to what you are saying, about how someone's grandfather came over from scandinavia somewhere. and then there was a man in ireland that we called (his name was in the book also), and he said that many centuries ago he says his ancestors came from when vikings settled in his part of the country before it was even a country.
then, to confuse things more, there are about 5 skays here in iowa city, iowa (where we live), and this older man, jack skay, came to visit my husband at work and told him that his family came over from ireland during the potato famine. i am guessing maybe there are two strains of skays or something, and i guess we're just looking for where our family fits in. my husband's father's name is stan skay jr. his father (stan skay sr.) left his mother when he was very young, so he never knew his father, and therefore he knows nothing of his father's family, or their origins, or anything. and his mother is unreachable, so we know nothing. do you or any of your relatives know anything about a stan skay??
