Dear all,

I am trying to find long lost relatives of my grandmother who apparently remained in the US and with whom we have lost touch.

Here's a short history...
My grandmother's name was Anna Sinacola and she was born in 1907 in Wilkes Barre (PA). Her parents were Benedetto Sinacola and Maria Antoinetta Petrucci of Sant'Elia Fiumerapido in the province of Frosinone (Lazio) in Italy.

Benedetto had arrived with his wife in the USA around 1903 (we guess this date) and returned to Italy just before World War One when my grandmother was about 7 or 8 years of age. Three of the Sinacola children (including my grandmother Anna Sinacola), were born there. The entire family left the US and then returned to Italy for a short while and then immigrated again, this time to Lyon in France, where she met and married my Grandfather, Stefano Tomolillo.

My grandparents (Anna and Stefano) had 5 daughters in France. My grandparents then went back to Italy for a short while and while they were there another three children were born (two sons and a daughter). Tragically, two of their daughters were killed in Italy during the war. After the devastation of World War II and having literally lost everything, they left Italy for good in 1954 and went to Scotland to start their lives over yet again. Their last daughter was born in Scotland and they both remained there till they died. My great grandparents, Benedetto Sinacola and Maria Antoinetta Petrucci, both died in France.

We know for sure that when my grandmother left the USA at the age of 7 or 8 some of her cousins remained in the States. I don't know how much they kept in touch but now we don't know anything.

Sinacola is not a very common name in Italy and looking in the Italian phone directory I can find only about 10 entries, all of whom seem to be related.

When I search the Internet I can find even versions in the USA I can even find versions such as Sinicola. Sinicola does not exist in Italy so I guess somewhere down the line, the name was misspelled and therefore it was Sinacola in the first place.

In short, the chances are that if your name is Sinicola or Sinacola, there is more than likely a family connection somewhere.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Regards
Gabriella
