There are about 7 different Simonton Families that came to America before the Revolutionary War in 1776. Before the ability to use DNA tests to verify that there was a common ancestor between males of the Simonton Surname and various family lines these 7 family lines were not thought to be related since they settled in different areas of the North East US. During the past year through the DNA Project on the Simonton family was started we have been able to determine that there was a common ancestor between the Andrew and William Simonton brothers who came to Maine, Theophilus Simonton who came to Deleware and then went to Lancaster Co. PA. and Robert Simonton who originally settled in New Jersey and then moved to PA as well. We also have determined that the Adam Simonton who moved from Iredell Co. to South West Ohio around 1800 is a descendent of the Theophilus Simonton line stated above. This has been an exciting and very revealing project. What this seems to indicate is that between 1630 and 1685 these families had a common ancestor in Tyrone, Ulster North Ireland. Exactly who that was is not determined but the time frame is fairly certain.
There are several lines not yet connected and I would really encourage any male Simonton from other not yet connected lines to respond to this e mail for information as to how they can be related as well. The lines as far as we have determined are Dr. William Simonton and brother John who settled in Dauphin Co. PA. John Simonton who came from PA to Preble Co. Ohio after the Revolutionary War, John Simonton line from Farifield Co. South Carolina and from the Simonton line from West Virginia. These are the four so far identified that have descendents in America today and may have a common ancestor with the ones currently identified.
PLEASE, ANY DESCENDENT WITH THE SURNAME SIMONTON or relative of a Simonton RESPOND TO THIS MESSAGE AND WE CAN PROVIDE INFORMATION ON PROCEDURE AND POSSIBLE RESULTS THAT CAN BE ACHIEVED. This is an ongoing research project that is only for the benifit of Simonton descendents of any and all Simonton families in America or else where in the World. This is also open to any spelling variation especially the spelling of Symington, the probable primary family in Scotland and elsewhere in the world.
