My name is John Peter Savastio and I was born 3/5/1961. My parents are Ruth Berdine Savastio and Leonard Anthony Savastio Jr. My father’s parent’s were Leonard Anthony Savastio Sr and Christina Barile Savastio.

Christina Barile (Savastio), who was my grandmother, was born February 22, 1885 in Boiano (sometimes spelled Bojano), in the Molise region in Italy (near Compobasso). Christina Barile came to the US in 1887 or 1888. Her father, Anthony Barile, was a musician. He played a sliding trombone. He was recruited to play in the Naval Academy band, and the family lived in Annapolis. He even played for John Sousa. His band would play on board ships and at football games. He died after playing his horn during the Army/Navy game of 1911. Christina’s mother name was Francis Pirelli. Christina died on Jan 8, 1948 in Philadelphia and is buried next to her husband in Waltonville PA.

My grandmother Christina 2 older sisters, Jenny and Carmella. Carmella’s husband was a very neat and dignified man by the name of Siani, who like my great-grandfather was a naval musician. Jenny married a man by the name of Genaro DeGiovani who also was an Annapolis veteran and a musician. They ran a great boarding house in Wildwood, NJ.

I would love to get more info on this branch of the Barile Family. If there are any Sianis out there who are descended from Carmella Barile Siani and her husband (first name unknown), please let me know. Thanks.
