In the 1820 census for Oswegatchie, St Lawrence County, New York, there is a James Seymour, (over age 45) who resided next to Benjamin Nichols (b. 1750 in VT and d. 1826 in St. Lawrence County, NY). Living in the Benjamin Nichols household are the teenaged and/or young adult children of Benjamin's deceased daughter, Phebe Nichols Dyer (Peter, Thomas N and Samuel Dyer). In about 1826, Peter Dyer (b. 1801 in VT and died 1854 in IN) was married to Sarah (Sally) Seymour (b. abt 1806 in Canada and died 1843 in Lagrange Co., IN).
We are wondering if Sarah (Sally) Seymour, who married Peter Dyer, was the daughter of James Seymour, residing next door to the Benjamin Nichols family? Does anyone know about this Seymour family? Were they from Canada? There is a George N Seymour (died 1849 age 65) and wife Sophia Mary DeVillers (1797-1880) buried in the Ogdensburgh Cemetery. Was he a son of James Seymour?
We would like to find out more about this Seymour family of St. Lawrence County, NY and see if our Sally Seymour Dyer connects to them.
