I am a descendant of Francisco Segura. Francisco Segura received a land grant from the King of Spain and settled in New Iberia, LA. His sweetheart, Maria de Prados, followed him and they married in New Iberia. Other family names who intermarried with the Segura line include the Viators, Theriots, and Delcambres. The Seguras owned slaves and had a plantation where they grew cotton on the Bayou Tesche. They also owned a sugar mill company (Segura Sugar Company). There is a little monument in the town Square of New Iberia which identifies Francisco Segura as one of the original settlers of New Iberia. One can also find many Seguras buried in above ground mausoleums in the New Iberia cemetary where my great-grandfather lived and worked (Cesar Segura). My grandfather, Alphe Segura, left New Iberia and moved to Texas in his 30's. Many Seguras still live in New Iberia.
