The obituary for Morin M. SCOTT, Sr., appeared in the May 20, 2000 Houston Chronicle newspaper.

Morin M. SCOTT, Sr. died. Thursday, May 18th following a short illness. Born January 7, 1920 in Houston Texas to Annie C. and Cyrus SCOTT. He attended Montrose Elementary, San Jacinto High School and was captain of the basketball team in the first graduating class of Lamar High School. He was in the first class of Plan II at the University of Texas, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.

Mr. SCOTT owned the Scott Hotel Company, which included the Montagu Hotel, the Tidelands and the Tides II Motor Inn, in Houston, and was vice president of Southwest Hotels of Arkansas. For many years, the Tidelands Club was home to many famous entertainers, such as Jonathan Winters, Bob Newhart and the Smothers Brothers... all of whom appreciated Mr. SCOTT's wit, and credited him with helping them get started. The Tidelands was later donated to Rice University for a graduate dormitory. In 1945, Mr. SCOTT donated 800 acres of land on Lake Austin to the Boy Scouts to honor his brother, Spencer SCOTT, who was serving overseas. The gift of land established the SCOTT Trust for the Capitol Area Council. He was a member of the Headliners Club, Tarry House, Admirals Club, and Coronet Club.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Joy MANNINT SCOTT, his daughter, Susan SCOTT ROSS and husband, Robert P. ROSS, Jr., his son, Monty M. SCOTT, Jr. and wife, Becky BUTLER SCOTT, two grandchildren, Morin M. SCOTT, Ill, and Catherine Elizabeth Joy SCOTT, sister-in-law Mrs. Spencer SCOTT, and his faithful dog, Tiger. A service will be held at the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Austin on Saturday, May 20 at 2:00 p.m. Pallbearers are: Roy BUTLERr of Austin, John BYRAM of Austin, Denton Cooley of Houston, Lillo CRAIN of Houston, Leigh ELLIS of Austin, Peter FLAWN of Austin, Jim FORD of Sealy, Ben HEAD of Austin, John HILL of Houston, William I. LEE of Dallas, Bob MILLER of Austin, Dick RREYNOLDS of Austin, Arthur SEELIGSON of San Antonio, Felder THORNHILL of Austin, and Sam WINTERS of Austin. Honorary pallbearers are: Robert Acord of Little Rock, Henry Beck of Dallas, John Burford of Hot Springs, Dick Duchossois of Chicago, Jim Elkins of Houston, Horst Fischer of Hot Springs, Floyd Fulkerson of Little Rock, Arthur Gray of New York City, Will Houston of Austin, Fitzgerald Hudson of Alabama, Bobby Inman of Austin, Horace Jewell of Little Rock, Mark Lemmon of Dallas, Ben Love of Houston, Dick Maegle of Houston, Charles Nash of Austin, Bill Norman of Austin, Hugh Patterson of Little Rock, Sam Perry of Austin, Jake Pickle of Austin, John Rauscher of Dallas, Walter Reifslager of Austin, Steve Rooth of Dallas, Bob Rowland of Austin, Bob Strauss of Washington D.C., John Thompson of Dallas, and Robert Wigley of Dallas.

The family wishes to express its gratitude to Dr. Nancy Thorne Foster for her loving care.
