The surname SCOUT in my 19th century ancestry appears likely to be a variation of SCHOUTE or SCHOUTEN. I have seen many, many variation spellings. I believe my family line is descended from the SCOUT/SCOUTEN families of Bucks County, PA (Warmister Twp., era of 1730-1790). Many of these Scout's appear descended from SCOUTEN/SCHOUTEN family of Staten Island, or Port Richmond, NY circa 1700.
I am now hoping to locate further genealogical identification, descendants or ancestors, for Jacob Scout, aka, Cobe Scout - (about 1736 -1829), a.k.a. James and Jacobus Scouten, and also Anthony SCOUT, who I believe was Jacob's brother. I have found coinciding references in Part III: Watson's Annals of Philadelphia and in DAVIS’ THE HISTORY OF BUCKS COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, CHAPTER XIV, WARMINSTER “He (Cobe Scout) died 1829, at the age of ninety-three, and was buried in the Vansant graveyard, Warminster, and many years after the late Josiah Hart, Doylestown, erected tomb stones at the grave. Scout's Christian name was James, or Jacobus.”
I have also located minor references in Davis’ History of Bucks Co, to Anthony Scout and Andrew Scout of Warminster in the same era.
Other families of CRAVEN and SUTPHIN are affiliated with this SCOUT/SCOUTEN family group of this era and location, as well. Key given names for SCOUT in Buck's County are Aaron, Anthony, Andrew, Jacob, William, Jonathan, James and Rebecca, Elinor, Mary and Fanny.
They may have affiliated with Presbyterian Church at Neshamany.
I would really like to find anyone who may have information to link the NY Staten Island SCHOUTEN families (Low Dutch Reform) who may have migrated to Bucks Couny, PA in the early 1700s or later of the Revolutionary War period, to their descendant families in PA.
