I have not found a connection to the Cherokee Peoples. I have William Fletcher Sanders b: abt 1822 in Franklin County, Ga; d: 1880 in Polk County, Georgia. As far as I can tell, his father was Stephen Martin Sanders, 1720-1768; we think William's mother was Mildred Haynes, b: 1748 in Virginia; d: about 1816 in Virginia. I have not been able to determine whether any of them were Cherokee - however, family tradition says my husband's grandparents were Cherokee or at least part Cherokee. My husband remembers them well - his grandfather died in 1958 and his grandmother in 1964. It could be that his grandmother, Nannie Mozelle Lathem, had the Cherokee blood line, even though both grandparents taught their children and grandchildren about the Cherokee way of life. Any assistance you can offer as I start this journey in trying to trace them is greatly appeciated. Wanda
